Pronouns Practice
Pronouns: select the picture, or find and read the written word
Two games. In the Picture game, the app reads a sentence aloud, for example “We are playing with cars.” The learner taps the one of two pictures that matches the sentence. Phase 2 adds he and she. Word cards show written pronouns: 17 words in four lists. The learner hears “Find, she.” and touches the word. Or the learner reads one card to you, and you score it.
When
- Teach receptive pronouns after the learner can match pictures and follow short sentences.
- Go from we and they to all four pronouns (Phase 2).
- Practice written pronouns with word cards. The learner finds the word by sound, or reads it.
Why
- The two pictures show the same activity. Only the pronoun is different.
- The trials are balanced. The same side, card position, pronoun, or word never comes more than two times in sequence.
- The tool has error correction. If the learner taps an incorrect picture, the app says “Try again.” The learner must select the correct picture to continue.
- Word cards never show the word in the prompt. The learner cannot match the word by sight.
How
- On the setup screen, tap the Picture game card or the Word cards card. The app saves the choice for the learner.
- For the picture game, tap a Level card: We and they, or We, they, he, and she (Phase 2). Use Phase 2 after the learner meets criterion on we and they.
- For word cards, tap a Words card to select the word list.
- Tap Say this to your learner. Read the script to your learner. The tips for the RBT and BCBA are under the script.
- Tap More settings to see the other settings. For word cards, select a Learner option. In Find the word, the voice says “Find, she.” and the learner touches the word. In Read the word, the app shows one large card. Tap Correct or Not yet, or push → or ←. For Find the word, also select Number of cards (2 or 3). The word for you shows in small text at the top.
- Under More settings, select Trials per block (6, 10, 12, or 20).
- If you read the sentences or words yourself, set Voice reads aloud to Off. If not, keep it On.
- To hear “Great job!” or a similar phrase after each correct answer, set Praise to On. This setting is Off at the start. It also works when the voice is off.
- On a new device, tap Test sound under Voice reads aloud before you start.
- Tap Play. To hear the sentence or word again, tap the speaker button.
- At the end of a block, the app shows the results for each pronoun. To continue, tap Play another round. To stop before the end, tap ✕, then tap End and see data.
- To practice a trial again, tap Next time next to it in Trial by trial. In the picture game, the pronoun and activity of that trial come back one time in the next picture round. They replace one turn of that pronoun. He and she trials wait for a round with Phase 2. In word cards, the word comes back in the next word-card round with a list that has that word.
Saved to the dashboard: The first touch on each trial, or your score of each card that the learner reads aloud. The app does not score corrections after an error. The graph shows a new phase when the game, phase, Learner option, word list, or number of cards changes.
