Probe Day

Cold probes, mastery by probe, and maintenance across every trial tool

A page that collects the first trial of each target each day from the trial tools of the learner. It shows the targets that you probed today, the mastered targets, and the targets that are due for a maintenance probe.

Open Probe Day

When

  • Do probes at the start of the day, before teaching.
  • Decide mastery from first-trial data, not from full sessions.
  • Examine if mastered targets stay mastered (maintenance).

Why

  • You do not record more data. Each trial tool already saves the first trial of each target. Each tool asks each target one time before it repeats a target.
  • A target is mastered after it is correct on 3 probe days in sequence.
  • If you do not probe a mastered target for 7 days, the target is due. Its next probe counts toward retention.

How

  1. Select the learner.
  2. Open Probe Day.
  3. Tap Open next to a tool, and use the tool as usual. The first time that each target shows today is its probe.
  4. Go back to Probe Day to see the results of today, the targets due for maintenance, and retention.

Saved to the dashboard: The tool saves no new data. The dashboard card shows the targets probed today, mastered by probe, due for maintenance, retention, and the median probe days to mastery. Transition Readiness uses the same numbers.
