# Token Board

A token economy: a themed token board or a gem jar, with a picture menu of how to earn

A token board or a gem jar. The learner fills the token board to get a reward that the learner selects. The gem jar has 3D gems that stay in the jar from one session to the next, on all days and devices. A picture menu shows how to earn, for example Brush teeth gives 2. To give tokens, the BT pushes and holds a line on the menu.

## When

- Reinforce taught behaviors, routines, and chores with a visible, consistent exchange.
- Use with learners who must see the reward and how near they are to it.
- If the tokens must stay from one session, place, or person to the next, use the gem jar.

## Why

- The menu and rewards are pictures, so the learner does not have to read.
- The learner can see and select the reward, and can change the selection. The learner cannot change the menu.
- To give tokens, you must push and hold for 5 seconds. A tap or a short push by the learner does not count.
- The app saves each token with the behavior that earned it. The app saves each trade with the reward that the learner selected.

## How

1. On the setup screen, select **Token board** or **Gem jar**.
2. For a board, open **More settings**. Select the number of tokens that fill it, a theme (**Plain color**, **Polka dots**, **Farm**, **Space**, or **Ocean**), a color, and a token.
3. Tap **Edit board**. Under **How to earn**, add up to 8 behaviors. Set the number of tokens or gems for each behavior.
4. Under **Trade for**, add up to 6 rewards. In the gem jar, the number is the price. Then tap **Done**.
5. Tap **Play**.
6. When the learner does a behavior on the menu, **push and hold** its line until the fill goes across the line (5 seconds). **Something else** gives 1 for a behavior that is not on the menu.
7. On a board, the learner taps **I’m working for** to select a reward. When the board is full, tap **Trade in** (or **Not yet**).
8. In the jar, the learner taps a reward to work for it. **Trade** shows when there are sufficient gems.
9. To cancel a token or trade that you gave by mistake, tap **Back**. To start the board or jar again with no tokens, push and hold **Hold to empty**.

**Saved to the dashboard:** Each token or gem that you give, with the behavior that earned it and the quantity. Each trade, with the reward that the learner selected. The app keeps the jar balance for the learner on all devices. Each session shows the tokens for each behavior. The graph shows the tokens or gems for each session.
